It’s four years since Halsey released her amazing Badlands album and the singer shared an emotional message to fans thanking them for making the album theirs.
Badlands was Halsey’s first studio album, released in 2015, and which featured songs including New Americana and Ghost.
She posted: ‘4 years ago today I released my first baby BADLANDS. I was absolutely terrified. Now bare [sic] with me cause I don’t usually get preachy about numbers and all that s**t but I want some of you guys to know this.
‘In its first week it sold over 115,000 copies, and 97,000 of those were pure sales. Those statistics might not mean a lot to some, but to me it meant my first thing I ever made was special enough for people to want to OWN.
‘In a world where people purchase albums less and less. It went platinum and so did 6 individual singles including 2 deluxe edition B sides. It has streamed over 1 billion times (!!!!!!!!!!) Because you guys took this and made it yours.’
The singer – whose real name is Ashley Frangipane – added: ‘You decided what parts of the story mattered to you. You weren’t fed some formula. None of these songs were radio hits or carefully positioned tricks. They were yours to discover how you wanted to.
‘It’s yours. It’s always been yours. And you taught me how to be an artist who tells a complete story, and spares no details. I love you.’
Halsey, 24, shared the message alongside a throwback photo from the Badlands era, complete with her blue hair as she posed next to a poster promoting the album.
Fans were quick to congratulate her, posting: ‘4 years omfg, feeling old’, ‘so unbelievably proud of you’ and ‘Truly a masterpiece’.
Halsey has since released her second album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom in 2017 as well as a string of massive hits including Eastside with Benny Blanco and Khalid and Without Me.
