For years the pair have been plagued by rumours of estrangement and strained relationship, with Maddox not shedding too much light on their father-son bond.
His relationship with mother Ange – who adopted him in 2002 – has always been one of closeness, with the Maleficent star recently admitting to ‘ugly crying’ while dropping the 18-year-old off at university in South Korea recently.
In 2006, Brad filed paperwork to make the lad his son alongside Maddox, but the two didn’t appear to share the same bond as Maddox with Ange.
Maddox replied of being asked whether Brad would visit him: ‘I don’t know about that [or] what’s happening.’
He also remained coy when asked if his relationship with his dad is over, stating: ‘Well, whatever happens, happens.’
After famously falling out in 2016, Us Weekly alleged in August that Maddox, 18, ‘doesn’t really see himself as Brad’s son’.
After Brad’s reps declined to comment at the time when approached by www8.sale-north-face.org, stating they do not comment on the actor’s personal life. But now Maddox has somewhat addressed the reported feud when asked by paparazzi this week.
Since Brad, 55, and Angelina, 44, announced their separation in 2016 after 11 years together, reports have mounted that tensions between Maddox and his famous father have heightened.
The pair haven’t been photographed together since March 2016, when Brad took his kids to a workshop to make a plate for Ange.
Things were perhaps never so bad as when Brad was investigated in connection with allegations which stemmed back to an alleged altercation on a plane.
The police and social services in Los Angeles are said to have previously investigated allegations that the Moneyball star, 52, got drunk on a flight with Angelina Jolie and his kids and ‘went wild’.
According to TMZ, Pitt is said to have started ‘screaming and getting physical’ with his children.
It was widely alleged at the time ‘shortly after the plane took off, Brad and Angelina began arguing and Maddox jumped up to verbally defend his mom’. The website claimed ‘Brad then lunged at the boy and Angelina jumped in between them to block her husband. Brad connected in some fashion with his son’.
According to People at the time, Brad did not hurt his son.
‘He is emphatic that it did not reach the level of physical abuse, that no one was physically harmed. He did not hit his child in the face in any way,’ an insider claimed.
‘He did not do that; he is emphatic about that. He put his hands on him, yes, because the confrontation was spiralling out of control.’
Not long after, the Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed to Brad was not being investigated, however it was said to be the catalyst for Brad and Angelina’s split.
Following which, Brad began Alcoholics Anonymous and said it was ‘freeing’ to talk about his own personal issues. The star was a member of AA for 18 months.
After the pair split, Brad and Ange went toe-to-toe in a nasty custody battle.
While Angelina, who was in London filming the sequel to Maleficent, had primary custody of their children, she was reportedly ordered by a judge in June last year to allow Brad more access.
According to court documents obtained by the DailyMail.com, the Superior Court of Los Angeles has determined that ‘not having a relationship with their father would be harmful’ to the six children (they also share Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and 11-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox).
Brangelina worked through a summer schedule over the phone with their kids and two psychologists, with eldest child Maddox apparently allowed to choose how much time he spends with either parent due to his age.
In April this year, sources claimed Brad ‘seems happy to focus on himself and his kids’.
‘There is definitely less drama,’ the insider claimed.
A source previously said: ‘Both parents are focused on what’s best for the kids.’
Still, earlier this year, when it emerged Maddox was heading to Yonsei University in South Korea, Us Weekly reported Brad learned of his son’s plans ‘moments before the news leaked to the media’.
It came after allegations Maddox ‘refused’ to attend Brad’s house with his younger siblings to open presents at Christmas.
However, it was claimed it was merely a case of children spending ‘less time than they used to with the younger kids and the family’.
Another of those insiders has claimed Brad was hopeful’ their issues would be resolved, telling the publication: ‘Brad’s hopeful that as his son gets older, they’ll become close again.’
Time will tell, we suppose.
