BTS and the ARMY have joined forces to celebrate RM’s birthday in style, as the singer posted an emotional message to fans to celebrate turning 26.

K-Pop group BTS – arguably the biggest boyband in the world might on a break for the first time since their 2013 debt, but despite not being together on leader RM’s (real name Kim Namjoon’s) 26th birthday, his fellow bandmates celebrated by sharing videos, messages and pictures on the group’s Twitter account.

BTS’s loyal fans who call themselves ARMY have also taken to social media to send their love to RM as he celebrates his birthday while travelling around Europe.

RM’s been making the most of his time off to take in some European culture and spend time in galleries, and he posted a short heartfelt letter to fans thanking them for their love and telling the ARMY he hopes to inspire ‘love and sincerity always’.

The message, written in Korean and translated by fans, read: ‘Dear, ARMY, how are you doing in the rainy late summer? I don’t really remember birthdays before I was 20.

‘In retrospect, it was a bit special and decently plain. Especially after I learned that birthday is the day I should thank my parents “who gave birth to me” rather than the day “I” get congrats.

‘On sweet Sept 12, the day I was born, I already received seven overflowing comments. Shakespeare said “we are advertised by our loving friends.”

‘Suddenly I realized the me of today became known by loving you guys and became more special. I think, what if I can become a person who inspires you guys with love and sincerity, and as always, love that can’t be displayed with words reaches at least one person.

‘Although, I can’t say I have seen all the love that was poured out today. I write my thanks at least through this short letter. I wish we could be happy for at least an hour more. I love you. Namjoon’.

ARMYs have organized also cafe gatherings as well as taking to nature – one of RM’s favorite places to be when he isn’t on stage or in the studio – and planting a BTS RM Forest in Jamsil Hangang Park, Seoul.

RM is an advocate for preserving the natural environment and fans have really taken this to heart. Another project called #BuildBricksWithNamjoon sees fans funding schools in Latin America using eco-friendly materials. What a birthday present!

Of course there was more than one hashtag trending in honour of the big day, with the ARMY sharing messages with the hashtags #HappyBirthdayRM, #MoonChildDay, #OurJoonievere, #HappyBirthdayNamjoon and #HappyBirthdayNamu.

ARMYs have been avidly tweeting their love and support and sharing their favourite RM memories including streaming his solo mixtape Mono with its slow melodies and rap which received critical reception and RM’s United Nations speech.

In his speech to the UN, he encouraged self-love and self-forgiveness, telling ARMYs: ‘I have come to love myself for who I was, for who I am, and who I hope to become.’

RM has also received wishes from his fellow BTS band members Suga and Hoseok as well as a video from Jimin who apologized for not being with RM and a silly picture of RM was posted by Jin sending birthday wishes too.

The boys, who are all on a break, are spending time away from their heavy schedules of the past seven years having worked flat out since their debut.

RM took to Twitter to thank ARMY for all the birthday wishes and shared some of his recent holiday snaps:

Over the past year BTS has been competing with their own success, becoming the only K-Pop group to address the United Nations, the first K-pop group to present a Grammy Award and to perform on Saturday Night Live.

As well as their sell out arena tours in the UK and USA, BTS become the third group in fifty years to have three number one albums on the Billboard two-hundred charts in less than twelve months.

We can’t wait to see what 26 brings for RM – but if it’s anything like the past year, it’s sure to be very exciting!
