S Club 7 star Paul Cattermole had one heck of a journey while appearing on First Dates Hotel.
The 42-year-old took to the programme with the hope he would find true love.
But despite things going well with fellow music lover Anna, the former popstar ended his time on the show in tears as he left a single man.
The pair appeared to be the perfect match for one another as they were both from a performing background.
Anna revealed she grew up dancing, and had even turned down previous relationships in order to pursue her dreams.
After discussing how well travelled he was, the Bring It All Back hitmaker confessed he was from the famous 90s band.
‘I don’t tend to bring up on a date that I have been in a pop group,’ the singer said: ‘It’s not the thing I want to shout about.’
Talking about how it took a toll on his life, the star confessed: ‘I ended up being in the group for five years six years.
‘I did leave before the end, I was feeling like I was losing myself and I wasn’t very happy at all.’
He added: ‘I had the balls to say, “guys I’ve got to go,” but not one of them said stay.’
Addressing his relationship with Hannah Spearritt, Paul continued: ‘I was seeing a member of the pop group – Hannah – there was nothing natural about it.
‘Lovely person, but not at all did I think this was going to lead to…’ he paused for a second before adding: ‘I think because of the lifestyle at work.’
In the voice over, Paul could be heard saying: ‘If you’re being controlled to the point your girlfriend is chosen for you, you’re going to quit it, and I did.
‘It made it tough to get to grips with what made a real relationship.’
And it seems his history was all a bit too much for his date, as she told him she’d love to stay in touch – but not romantically.
‘I feel like we have so much in common,’ Anna said, letting him down lightly.
‘I had a really lovely time. But I do think it would be good if you were more confident, I think you’re a lovely person and the industry has beaten you around a bit.’
She said: ‘You were apologising for yourself when you hadn’t even done anything.’
Tearing up in front of the camera, and asking for ‘a moment’, Paul choked up: ‘I feel like I hide the real me.
‘If I really want to find someone what this process has taught me is yes, I need to be more confident and not be afraid.’
First Dates Hotel continues Thursday at 9pm on Channel 4.
