A teacher with a sexually transmitted infection had sex with a 14-year-old student until she was confronted by her own children, prosecutors say.
Elyes Castillo, 45, is charged with aggravated sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, witness tampering, and having sex while she had a venereal disease without the informed consent of the alleged victim, according to court documents.
Castillo, a substitute teacher in Jersey City, New Jersey reportedly had sex with her alleged victim, a student, over a period of 15 months.
On August 19, Castillos’ children, who are 13 and 14, confronted their mother and told her they were disgusted by ‘her relationship with a minor,’ according to authorities.
The father of Castillo’s children contacted the Division of Child Protection and Permanency, alleging Castillo abused her children during the altercation, which is when authorities discovered the alleged sexual relationship with the boy.
Authorities then interviewed the victim who said he met Castillo in June 2018 while he was in the sixth grade, NJ.com reported.
The boy told police that he began a relationship with Castillo, adding ‘we would make love,’ according to court documents. However, the boy did not know Castillo had herpes, the New York Post reported.Donald Trump warns US is 'locked and loaded' if Iran attacked Saudi oil fields
Investigators said Castillo and the boy had sexual encounters multiple times at Castillo’s home, with the last taking place on August 2.
She was arrested on August 29, but was released from jail on Wednesday by Hudson County Superior Court Judge Paul DePascale who ordered her not to have contact with minors, with an exception for her own children.
According to Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Barbara Drasheff, Castillo confessed to the illicit relationship and faces ten to 20 years in prison if convicted.
